OUT NOW

Welcome to rural Devon — where life looks pretty as a postcard. But dark secrets lurk beneath the picturesque surface . . .

Early one morning Lilah Beardon finds her father, local farmer Guy, floating in the muck of his own slurry pit. The police assume his death was a tragic accident.

Lilah isn’t convinced. She knew her father better than anyone, and a clumsy accident like this doesn’t seem likely.

Everyone else in the village hated crabby old Farmer Guy: his neglected wife Miranda, his downtrodden son Roddy, even the vicar disliked him.

Which of his many enemies in this close-knit community wanted him dead?

Working alongside handsome Detective Constable Den Cooper, Lilah is determined to uncover the truth.

But someone in the village doesn’t appreciate her snooping. And now another body is discovered . . .

THE SETTING
Nestled in the scenic green hills of West Devon, Redstone dairy farm might seem like a peaceful rural idyll. The nearest village is chocolate-box pretty, centred around a pub, a church and little else. The villagers are an eccentric bunch: old-timers, frustrated youngsters and newcomers struggling to fit in. But wherever they come from, everyone in this community has a past — that some will do anything to keep hidden . . .

MEET THE SLEUTH
Headstrong Lilah Beardon has just left school and doesn’t know what to do with her life. There is a place for her on the farm if she wants it. Opportunities for meeting new people are minimal, and there is often little excitement to be had . . . until now.

MEET THE DETECTIVE
Detective Constable Den Cooper is a salt-of-the-earth village bobby — tall, handsome and good at his job. A man of Devon, he understands village life. When he and Lilah team up to solve her father’s murder, he finds himself falling for her very quickly indeed.
