Meet your next favourite Scottish detectives: DI Colin Anderson and DS Winifred ‘Freddie’ Costello.

A bitterly cold February in Glasgow. In the attic of a deserted tenement, the body of a man is found hanging, his face disfigured beyond recognition.

Around his neck is a sign that reads: I Am Stephen Whyte.

Investigating officers DI Anderson and DS Costello believe the dead man was the prime suspect in a decade-old unsolved case.

Ten years ago, a young woman was brutally attacked and left for dead. Now the man found hanging has the exact same horrific injuries.

There are other similar cases on file.

But the dead man didn’t act alone, he had an accomplice — who is still on the loose . . .

AN ELECTRIFYING SCOTTISH THRILLER WITH A HEART-STOPPING FINALE

Fans of Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Denise Mina, Matt Brolly, Carol Wyer, Joy Ellis, Stuart MacBride, Angela Marsons, Helen H. Durrant, JD Kirk, DS Butler and LJ Ross will love this series.

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT DARK WATER:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This is an intelligent, classy piece of crime writing that bodes well for the future of Tartan Noir.” Cakehouse

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Ms Ramsay’s books get better and better — just when you think you’ve read her best, along comes another one.” AB65

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “I look forward to catching up with her engaging main characters of DI Anderson & DS Costello in her next novel. My only regret is not finding Ramsay’s novels before now!” Willow

“If you enjoy police procedurals with a dark undertone but still with a human element, then be sure to add Dark Water — along with the rest of the series — to your list.” Stina

“This is a big, meaty and satisfying read from the pen of Caro Ramsay.” thebookbag.co.uk

Ramsay writes with verve and abandon and has been very healthily splashed with storytelling stardust.” materialwitness.typepad.com

THE DETECTIVES
DI Colin Anderson: A well-qualified graduate with true Scottish grit. He’s calm, efficient and focused — despite his marriage falling apart, and the fact that he’s just a tiny bit in love with the boss’s wife.

DS Winifred “Freddie” Costello: Pithy, sometimes crabbit (as they say in Glasgow), Costello is incredibly capable, but not above pushing boundaries when needed. She’s a well-respected officer who always puts police work first. She’s had a crush on DCI McAlpine for many years now, but that doesn’t stop her getting the job done.

THE SETTING
Drizzly, grey Glasgow and its seedy backstreets along with up-and-coming new estates is the setting for this gritty series. The realities of poverty and crime are laid bare — with the underfunded police department trying to keep the damn from breaking.

THE DETECTIVES ANDERSON & COSTELLO SERIES
