“A thrilling novel about sexual and intellectual rivalry with a dark comic twist” Ann Abrams

“One of the best novels I’ve read in years...it says more in sixty pages than most books do in six hundred.” San Francisco Examiner

“The Bilge is simply a great novel.” San Francisco Review of Books

“...philosophical fiction of a sort rarely attempted by Americans, though depressing in its conclusions, is exhilarating in its execution.” Newsday, NY

"Lee Olds is one of the best writers you've never read. " John Peters

While scorning his drop-out would-be novelist friend Jan Peters, who lives on a dilapidated houseboat in San Francisco Bay, successful lawyer Ted Richter is strangely drawn to his bohemian way of life. Recounting Peters’ struggles with his sinking boat and his far from conventional relations and rivalries with his oddball friends, with cruel, acerbic wit Richter tells the story both of a vanishing way of life and a tryst that leads to a jealous battle of wits and a dark fate.

Lee Olds is the legendary author of the 1960s best-selling coming of age classic Too Much Sun, the novella Clara and the gripping novel The Return. These books are also published by Not So Noble Books and available on Amazon kindle from .

An independent review of The Bilge by Ira Ebov on GoodReads:

"I'd read Too Much Sun by the same author and enjoyed that odd tale of coming of age set in Alaska. Now The Bilge has exceeded my high expectations. Lee Olds is an amazing writer who takes you to the strange, wonderful and dark corners in his characters' minds. The way he tells the story of The Bilge is so clever. The narrator really estranges you from his own perspective and to the end your capacity for empathy is constantly being played with. There is also a great social commentary running through the novel but it has no single voice, it's more of a musical ensemble where you hear it all at once through the events each character experiences but no instrument is in harmony with the next, and some are out of tune altogether! Towards the end it is touching and extremely sad, and yet the sudden parcity of information makes it completely unemotional. You end up not feeling sorry for anyone but for the world as it is. It's really hard to describe but I'd never experienced anything like it. I really admire this writer and will definitely get The Return after this."

"A new novel by Lee Olds! Still writing and getting ever better." Ann Abrams

"The pioneer of a new post-Beatnik generation.” New York Herald Tribune

"Lee Olds is a thinking person’s writer. Here is a writer to watch." San Francisco Examiner

A tale of a man's obsession and a woman's indifference

An aged author who has fallen from popularity tries to enlist the help of Clara, a local community computer skills trainer, to get his latest novel published. He becomes obsessed with her, and with her as his muse sets down to pen his best novel yet. Only Clara does not accept the role he has established for her, and the separation that ensues leads to tragic consequences.

This edition of CLARA includes the captivating short story AUTOMANIA by the same author.

Lee Olds is also the author of the coming of age classic Too Much Sun, the dark novella The Bilge, and the gripping novel The Return. All of which are also published by Not So Noble Books.

“One of the thousand novels everyone must read.” The Guardian

“The Turn of the Screw” is the near perfect Victorian ghost story, continually asking the question “Are the ghosts real?” A governess is sent to a lonely country estate to care for two children along with the housekeeper.” Nick

“What is clear is that it's a masterpiece of storytelling that succeeds in creating an atmosphere of unparalleled mystery and dread.” William Skidelsky, The Observer

“As you progress deeper into the story, each interpretation begins to seem more horrible than the other. As the gruesomeness gathers, the beautiful country house effectively falls away, like flesh receding from the skull of a cadaver, and we’re deposited in a hellish, plantless, low landscape of bone and stone: plenty of places to run, but nowhere to hide.” Brad Leithauser, The New Yorker

THE TURN OF THE SCREW is one of the greatest ghost stories ever written, a psychological and literary masterpiece. Beautifully presented in this edition specially designed for kindle, this book will stay with you forever.

“I'm a huge James fan and this is a riveting novel.” Trina

“It’s the first important novel in English to turn on a child custody case, and more timely now than ever. This family is blended in all the wrong ways, and little Maisie—whose age is never specified—has to puzzle it all out.” Michael Gorra, Publishers Weekly

“However, it is Maisie herself who makes this novel a delight to return to regularly. James called her his "interesting small mortal" and, while this hints at her vulnerability, it tells next to nothing of her charm and nerve in the face of betrayal, which are heroic. Her unfailing character, her lack of misgivings, her indulgences, her capacity for joy and above all her faith in the idea of faith itself are wildly attractive on the page. I love her.” Susie Boyt, The Independent

“No "subject" is as affecting as little Maisie. Left to the devices of her own brave imagination, she is James's real masterpiece.” Mira Sethi, Wall Street Journal

WHAT MAISIE KNEW is a unique and beautiful novel in a beautifully presented edition specially designed for kindle. This is one of Henry James’ masterpieces which will stay with you forever.

WATER (a darkly funny novel romance)
'A page turner.’ -- Matthew Collings

"A great read, romantic, and a little tragic, I wanted to know how it all turned out ... The story is very funny and well written." Book Devourer

"A pacey and satisfying story punctuated by amusing and at times meaningful reflections about love, life and art." Swiss

"Dark humour, a self-conscious young artist falling in and out of love with disastrous consequences." Chris Child

'I love this book because it is so true . . . But the book is also funny. It is written in a breathless, bitty style which reminds me of Dunthorne's Submarine. The main character is egotistical but somehow you love him because he tries so hard to please others' Paloma

'A sort of absurdist, amoral fable ... There is something exquisitely tragic about Water's life, a repetitive parade of posh restaurants, press views and disinterested flings. Ultimately, he's a tad boring - not something you could say about the novel he stars in.' Richard Godwin, Literary Review

“Hilarious reading ... it's hard not to like him.” Dogmatika.com

Can success buy happiness or is love more important?

Find out in this quirky funny novel written and illustrated by the acclaimed artist Jasper Joffe.

Meet Nathaniel Water
A young artist with a complicated love life and a character you won’t forget once you’ve got to know him. While his career is taking off, his love life descends into an ever-deepening mess. First he proposes marriage to his beautiful Slovak girlfriend, Jelena, with whom he fights constantly. But they split up almost as soon as they’re engaged. He then meets Harriet, Jelena's opposite, and marries her instead. But that’s not the end of it. Both women become pregnant at different stages, he leaves each of them at least once, and deserts both when they most need him. This wryly comic novel reveals the dangers of celebrity, and some complicated problems you'll enjoy seeing Nathaniel Water try to work out.

"I was telling a friend about this book, that the theme was that even though you love someone you can still mess it all up. And she started crying. So I think it must be a good story, or maybe she was just thinking about something else." WATER by Jasper Joffe

LADY SUSAN

PRAISE FOR JANE AUSTEN
"My favourite writer is Jane Austen, and I've read all her books so many times I've lost count.” J.K. Rowling

“You can tell, from the way she writes, that she loves cleverness, and modesty, and self-control. But she also loves wit. And because she is half in and half out of her novels, she not only leaves us free to possess them, but also to see what she sees, as freshly as if she were looking over our shoulders, pointing things out.” Joanna Trollope on Jane Austen

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
“One of the 1000 books everyone must read” The Guardian

EMMA
“If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.”Jane Austen, Emma

MANSFIELD PARK
“The heroine, Fanny Price, is unusual for Austen; unlike the confident, clever heroines like Elizabeth, Emma, and the Dashwood sisters, Fanny has no real talents, except that she is kind, a good listener, helpful, and tries to do the right thing.” Jessica

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY
“The more I know of the world, the more I am convinced that I shall never see a man whom I can really love. I require so much!” Jane Austen, Sense And Sensibility
“The main characters are two loving sisters with diverse, relatable personalities . . . these young women are struggling against the world: kicked out of their home, with poor marriage prospects, and vulnerable. The differences between sisters Elinor and Marianne temper each other's reactions to this major change,” Karen Powell

PERSUASION
“This is my absolute favorite of Jane Austen's world. This is a love story about two people who find each other again despite time, age difference, different station, and societal expectations.” Jenny Colvin

NORTHANGER ABBEY
“But this is one of my favorites because it is so fun and light. It's breezy, and this may sound weird, but I think it most shows what Jane would have been like as a friend.” Misty

LADY SUSAN
“Oh Lady Susan, you minx, you. You delight in causing misery in others while pitying yourself when they go contrary to your designs. Not very nice. Not nice at all. This was another delightful Austen story. This was written as an epistolary novel, and we essentially get the full picture from everyone's differing views.” Becky
